British Airways adds more Buenos Aires flights

British Airways has confirmed that it is boosting the frequency of its service from London Heathrow Airport to Buenos Aires.

From October 26, the UK's flag carrier will add three flights per week to the South American route, turning it into a daily service. All flights will require a stop-over at Sao Paulo.

Further expanding its winter schedule, BA also plans to introduce a new three-times weekly direct service to Rio de Janeiro.

The airline will operate a Boeing 747 configured in a four-class layout for the Buenos Ares / Sao Paulo service, while it will deploy a dual-cabin Boeing 777 on the Rio de Janeiro route.

Both Brazilian destinations will be in direct competition with parallel services operated by TAM, which is shortly due to replace its aging MD11 aircraft with a new fleet of Boeing 777s.

The Argentinean route will also face competition from former national carrier Aerolineas Argentinas (website: - though officials within the country insisted any expansion will be welcomed with open arms.

"We are delighted that BA is satisfying the demand," a London-based spokesman for the Argentine Tourist Board told ABTN. "But we believe that there is far greater potential."
